The active ingredient S is extracted from the leaves of lemon myrtle (Backhousia citriodora), a tree native to the temperate rain forests of eastern Australia.

It performs a seboregulatory action, that is to say, it limits the excretion of sebum from the skin. The skin's shine is thus reduced, giving it a more matte appearance.
