Quinoa is a plant cultivated in South America and recognized for its exceptional nutritional qualities. Its richness in amino acids, proteins and minerals make it a food of choice, but also an ingredient of interest in cosmetics. Indeed, the phytoecdysones contained in quinoa seeds stimulate the differentiation of keratinocytes (Detmar and al. 1994) and thus, participate in the protection of the skin. The quinoa seed extract used for the eye area acts on two levels. On the one hand, it works on the signs of fatigue, mainly in the pockets. On the other hand, it works on wrinkles and fine lines.
As we age, the supporting tissues and muscles of the eyelids weakens. Fat tends to migrate from the eyelid to the underside of the eye, which contributes to the formation of puffiness. By activating lipolysis, the breakdown of lipids (fat), the quinoa seed extract visibly reduces puffiness and the swollen appearance of the eye area. By stimulating the synthesis of collagen, a major component of the dermis, quinoa seed extract maintains the structural integrity of the skin which tends to sag with age. Therefore, this ingredient helps to enhance the look and give a more youthful appearance to the eye area. In one study, quinoa extract in an eye cream reduced pocket volume by 37% from baseline. We find this ingredient in our Multi-action eye contour cream.
